The Lake Martin 100 returns to the Russell Forest on March 16th and 17th. Ultra runners, if you are interested, there is more info on the Southeastern Trail Runs page. Runners from all over the US and beyond will take a shot at the Trails in the Russell Forest. There is something for all runners – a 100 Mile Course, a 50 Mile Course and a 27 Mile Fun Run!

The Lake Martin 100 has been voted the Best 100 Mile race in North America and the Best North American Ultra.

Russell Forest Run 2024

It’s the 15th Annual Russell Forest Run!

It’s hard to believe that 15 years ago, to help raise funds for the Alexander City Schools Education Foundation (ACSEF), the Russell Forest Run (10K – 5K) was born! Since then, through the support of local sponsors and the hundreds of yearly runners, the run has given almost $120,000.00 to the ACSEF. This year, as in the past, the Russell Forest Run will be held at Russell Crossroads! The starting line will be near the Town Green and the finish line near The Stables, the home of the post-race party and our World Famous Grits Bar! The 10K will begin at 7:45am with the 5K to follow shortly at 7:55. REGISTRATION is now open, so click here and register! Keep an eye on Facebook and the run website for any changes!

Guided Nature Hike Last Sunset of the Year

4 PM – 6:30 PM

LAST SUNSET OF THE YEAR – New Year’s Kickoff for all ages!

Bring the kids to Russell Forest for a hike to the highest point in Russell Forest as our Naturalist discusses all of the changes that have taken place for local wildlife throughout the months of the calendar year. After we reach the top of Heaven Hill, we will sit down and talk about our own accomplishments from the past year and plan our upcoming 2024 successes. As the sun sets for the final time in 2023, snacks and a “toast” will be provided. We will wrap up our return hike just after dark with flashlights.

This experience is appropriate for kids ages 5+. Please contact Naturalist Marianne to register in advance: 256-496-2710.
